- 1930（昭和5）年
- 1月13日、香川県高松市生まれ。
- 1943（昭和18）年
- 香川県立工業学校（現香川県立高松工芸高等学校）航空機料へ入学し、1949年に機械料を卒業。
- 1951（昭和26）年
- 上京。
- 1954（昭和29）年
- 武蔵野美術学校（現武蔵野美術大学）油絵科に入学。
- 1956（昭和31）年
- 同校を中退し、代々木絵画研究所に通う。（～1959年）
- 1963（昭和38）年
- 渡米し、以後ニューヨークに住む。
- 1964（昭和39）年
- The Art students League of New Yorkへ入学し、Will Barnetに師事。（～1967年）
- 1965（昭和40）年
- 同校でThe Daniel Schnakenberg 奨学金を受ける。
- 1966（昭和41）年
- Board of Control 奨学金を受ける。
- 1967（昭和42）年
- “The 18th Annual New England Exhibition”にて Silvermine賞 受賞。（Connecticut, U.S.A）
- 1988（昭和63）年
- 四国新聞文化賞受賞。
- 2004（平成16）年
- KAGAWAアンバサダーに就任。（〜2018）
- 2005（平成17）年
- 香川県文化功労者表彰。
- 2009（平成21）年
- よんでん芸術文化賞受賞。
- 2010（平成22）年
- 地域文化功労者文部科学大臣表彰。
- 2016（平成28）年
- 53年間住み慣れたNY.から帰国。旧オリエンタルモーター亀水工場跡（高松市）に川島猛アートファクトリーを設立。
- 2017（平成29）年
- 公益財団法人川島猛アートファクトリー設立。
- 2019（平成31）年
- 川島猛アートファクトリーミュージアム開館。
